After 13 years of faithful service, my parent’s 2001 MDX is now gone. About two weeks ago, it lost fifth gear, and fourth was beginning to lurch. The cost to rebuild was around $4000, so my dad decided that it was time to move on. Still, 275,000 miles is pretty damn good all things considered. A wonderful long-trip vehicle. It was dead reliable, too, all things considered.

My dad was strongly considering buying a new loaded Pilot. Then I get a call today and they found a 2012 MDX for peanuts and got that instead.

Ill miss that old MDX, though.

How the fuck did that transmission last 275k? :p

I hope the new MDX has a better transmission

It actually lasted 200k — First one grenaded at 75k but Acura replaced it free the day of.

They’ll love the 2012 more. Great truck, better mileage, more comfortable, more quiet, and more fun to drive with the SH-AWD

2nd Gen’s do have a much better transmission I’ve been told. It’s the electromagnetic shocks you need to stay away from on the 2nd gen.

I didn’t know the MDX was available with magnetic shocks! I’ve only heard of them on GM and exotics

It is, and when new it does make the already sporty (for an SUV) MDX handle even better, but they don’t really last much past 100k, and at that point you’re looking at almost grand a piece to replace.
